The central difference is where fertilisation happens
With IUI, a prepared sperm sample is placed inside the uterus near ovulation. Sperm must still reach the egg in a fallopian tube, fertilisation happens inside the body, and the embryo must travel to the uterus.
With IVF, ovaries are stimulated, eggs are retrieved, and fertilisation occurs in an embryology laboratory using conventional IVF or ICSI when indicated. An embryo may then be transferred. IVF provides more laboratory information but is more intensive and still cannot ensure pregnancy.

IUI generally needs at least one usable tube, while IVF can bypass significant tubal blockage.

Is IUI less invasive than IVF?
Yes, IUI generally involves fewer procedures, although medication and monitoring may still be needed. It also cannot bypass several barriers that IVF can address.
Is IVF always more successful than IUI?
The methods serve different groups, so a headline comparison can mislead. Individual suitability, age, diagnosis and how the outcome is measured all matter.
Can we decide from an online quiz?
No. Tubal status, semen results, age, ovarian factors and clinical history need assessment before choosing treatment.
