Plan with balanced information

Thinking about freezing your eggs? Start with the right questions

Egg freezing may preserve an option for future IVF, but it is not an insurance policy. Understand how age at freezing, ovarian response, egg number, storage and later treatment shape the conversation.

  • Age-aware counselling
  • No future-pregnancy promise
  • Storage terms explained

Understand before deciding

What egg freezing actually preserves

Mature unfertilised eggs are collected after ovarian stimulation and frozen using vitrification. If used later, eggs are warmed and generally fertilised through ICSI before any resulting embryo may be considered for transfer.

The eggs remain the age they were at collection, but not every follicle yields a mature egg and not every frozen egg survives, fertilises, develops or implants. Counselling should follow the whole pathway rather than offer reassurance from one number.

A straightforward pathway

What treatment planning usually covers

  1. 01

    Goals and timing

Discuss why you are considering freezing and when future use might realistically occur.

  2. 02

    Ovarian assessment

Ultrasound and reserve markers help estimate response, not egg quality or pregnancy.

  3. 03

    Stimulation and retrieval

Medicines, monitoring and an ultrasound-guided procedure are needed to collect eggs.

  4. 04

    Vitrification and storage

Suitable mature eggs are recorded and stored under consent and prevailing requirements.

  • How does my age influence counselling?
  • What can AMH and antral follicle count tell us?

  • What are the storage fee and consent terms?
  • What steps and costs arise when eggs are used later?

Common questions

Information for your next conversation

Does egg freezing stop reproductive ageing?

It pauses ageing of the stored eggs, not the body. Future pregnancy also depends on health, the uterus, sperm, embryo development and other factors.

Can AMH predict how many babies I can have?

No. AMH can help estimate ovarian response but cannot predict mature eggs, embryos, pregnancy or live birth for an individual.

Is there one correct age to freeze eggs?

No. Earlier egg age may be more favourable, but personal goals, reserve, health, cost and readiness all require balanced discussion.
